Welcome to Snakes of Colombia
This page is dedicated to Dr. Juan Silva Haad, one of the pioneers of snake research in Colombia.
The information provided is for academic purposes only.
I'm the first to admit that the data may not be 100% accurate. I have used the taxonomy and record accounts from Perez-Santos, Peter Uetz, Jonathan Campbell and Bill Lamar. I have tried to give credit to everyone of the authors in these pictures. Regretfully some pictures do not have a known author. If one of these pictures is yours and I have not given you credit, please let me know and I will either give you credit or remove the picture from the site.
Most of the snakes in the pictures with my name are alive and well at Piscilago Zoo in Colombia where I'm currently the reptile curator. I'm currently compiling information on the ex situ conservation of Colombian snakes with emphasis on elapids.
Special thanks to my brother Oscar Maldonado who helped me a lot with this site, to Dr Juan Silva Haad, to the U.S. 7th Special Forces group and to the Colombian Army Lancero School for the collaboration and support during my research.
